An agreement signing between the Program Management Unit for Human Resources & Institutional Development, Research and Innovation (PMU-B) and the Thai Renewable Energy (RE100) Association took place on 4 April 2022 to embark on a human resource development initiative to drive Thailand’s carbon neutrality and net zero carbon emission goals. The ceremony was organized as part of TRIUP Fair 2022. Joining the signing were PMU-B Director Prof. Dr. Sompong Klaynongsruang and RE100 President Mr. Veeradej Tejapaibul. Guests of honor included Science, Research and Innovation Commission Chairman Professor Emeritus Suthiporn Jitmitraparb, Clinical Professor Emeritus Udom Kachintorn and NXPO President Dr. Kitipong Promwong.
Achieving carbon neutrality and net zero emissions require competent manpower in the area of green standards and regulations such as carbon footprint assessment, carbon offsetting, carbon credit and carbon trading. Recognizing the shortage of such experts, PMU-B and RE100 came together to strengthen human resource development in this field to fulfil the demand which is expected to be on the rise in Thailand and overseas. The program aims to produce experts and high-skilled workforce with knowledge and understanding in standards and regulations, create an ecosystem & platform, and promote knowledge exchange and collaboration among all sectors in order to support carbon neutrality and net zero emission drive.
Dr. Sompong Klaynongsruang stated that PMU-B’s main mission is to provide funding for developing research and innovation capacity of human resource as well as institutions. The PMU-B provides various types of college scholarships and research fellowships, grants for higher education and research institutions and funds for infrastructure development. Under this collaboration, scholarships and grants will be allocated to increase the number of manpower to support carbon neutrality and net zero emission drive, enabling Thai industry to meet the requirements of global trade driven by climate measures.
