NXPO representatives attended the 83rd Meeting of ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation (COSTI-83) and side meetings held in Brunei Darussalam on 18-22 June 2023. The event was hosted by the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications of Brunei.
NXPO President Dr. Kitipong Promwong represented Thailand in the 14th Meeting of the Board of Advisers to COSTI (BAC), whereas NXPO International Policy Partnership Director Dr. Pranpreya Sriwannawit Lundberg attended the COSTI-83 and relevant meetings. The meetings provided an opportunity for ASEAN member countries to report progress of and discuss ASEAN projects and initiatives on science, technology and innovations.
During the meeting, Dr. Kitipong offered his viewpoints and recommendations on various issues of COSTI operation such as the review of BAC’s roles and authorities, impact assessment of ASEAN Science, Technology and Innovation Fund (ASTIF), as well as on ASEAN projects under COSTI framework.
On the subject of BAC’s roles and authorities, Dr. Kitipong commented that country representatives of BAC should have close interaction with their counterpart serving on the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) to gain insights into industry’s interests which will be immensely beneficial to the design of ASEAN STI policy in such a way that it will make an impact to the industry and subsequently the economy. BAC can also help establish a network of public and private organizations, a partnership that can induce business growth.
