Smart Recycling Hub sets to build plastic circularity ecosystem in Thailand

วันที่เผยแพร่ 16 September 2023

On 7 September 2023, a launch event for the Smart Recycling Hub took place at True Digital Park West in Bangkok. The Smart Recycling Hub is a public-private partnership initiated by the Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW), Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR), Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), and the Public Private Partnership for Sustainable Plastics and Waste Management (PPP Plastics) to establish a plastic circularity ecosystem in Thailand. The goal will be achieved through the implementation of plastic waste management to transform them into raw materials for the industry, thereby preventing their entry into the environment. Attending this event as one of the alliance members, NXPO was represented by Mr. Norachai Rungsivichitprapa, a policy specialist from the Division of Sustainability Policy.

In line with the Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) Model, the project’s main task is to establish Thailand’s first Material Recovery Facility (MRF). This pilot facility is expected to recover at least 50,000 tons of plastic waste annually. In the initial stage, the feasibility study and engineering design development for the MRF will be carried out in Bangkok and the EEC area covering Chonburi, Rayong, and Chachengsao. The findings from the feasibility study will be used for the planning and construction of the MRF.
