MHESI-NXPO unveils report on “Development of a national hydrogen strategy and action plan for accelerating Thailand’s net-zero target”

วันที่เผยแพร่ 13 November 2024

NXPO, as Thailand’s National Designated Entity (NDE) for climate technology development and transfer under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), has received technical assistance for the project titled “Development of a National Hydrogen Strategy and Action Plan for Accelerating Thailand’s Net-Zero Target.” Conducted by Korea’s National Institute of Green Technology (NIGT), the project outlines a strategy and roadmap for hydrogen technology, focusing on technology readiness, economic feasibility, and environmental impact. The results serve as a foundation for advancing green hydrogen technology to help Thailand meet its net-zero greenhouse gas emissions target.

Data collection and presentation of key findings took place in mid-2024, and the full report is now publicly available at: https://www.ctc-n.org/technical-assistance/projects/development-national-hydrogen-strategy-and-action-plan-accelerating. The report comprises six main sections:

  1. A detailed implementation plan jointly designed by NIGT and NDE Thailand
  2. An assessment report on the potential use of hydrogen in three key economic sectors in Thailand
  3. A report on hydrogen production resources, technology, and cost analysis
  4. A national hydrogen strategy and action plan for Thailand
  5. A draft Green Climate Fund (GCF) Concept Note
  6. A report on capacity-building workshop for policymakers and stakeholders in Thailand

The findings from this study will inform recommendations for climate technology and innovation and support applications seeking financial aids from the UNFCCC financial mechanism and from Korea. NXPO will work with network partners to take further action, drawing on its role as NDE Thailand and as a main policy body for higher education, science, research, and innovation.
