In today’s fast-evolving world of technology and innovation, synthetic biology, or SynBio, is regarded as a transformative discipline with the potential to redefine Thailand’s economic landscape. This cutting-edge discipline combines knowledge from various fields – i.e., biology, systems biology, bioinformatics, mathematics, chemistry, biotechnology, engineering, and computer science – to design and construct biological components with new functionalities. SynBio applications span a wide range of industries, aligning with Thailand’s Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) model.
SynBio is a key driver to revolutionize industries, including healthcare and pharmaceuticals, fuels and energy, environmental sustainability, food and agriculture, and space exploration. By leveraging its potential, Thailand can enhance its global competitiveness, unlock new economic opportunities, and transition toward sustainable development under the BCG framework.
NXPO is a founding member of the SynBio Consortium, alongside the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), the National Innovation Agency (NIA), and BBGI Public Company Limited. This consortium, comprising 22 public and private organizations, aims to advance SynBio innovations in line with Thailand’s national strategy, enhancing the capacity of BCG industries. Key initiatives include workforce development tailored to SynBio-related industries and the creation of a SynBio Development Roadmap to establish a supportive ecosystem for the SynBio adoption in various sectors. The consortium also hosts annual international conferences to exchange knowledge, foster collaboration, and explore SynBio’s potential in health innovation, sustainable agriculture, and clean energy.
