On 10 February 2025, NXPO, the APEC Center for Technology Foresight (APEC CTF), and the Multidisciplinary Research Institute (MDRI) of Chiang Mai University, jointly organized a strategic foresight workshop and focus group discussion with MDRI executives and staff at Chiang Mai University.
As the second session in a continuing series, the workshop aimed to shape MDRI’s future vision and identify new value creation strategies in response to emerging trends and key drivers. The activity was attended by Prof. Emeritus Dr. Sanchai Jaturasitha, Director of MDRI, along with the institute’s executives.
In his remarks, NXPO Vice President Assoc. Prof. Wongkot Wongsapai emphasized the importance of institutional adaptation to global, national, and local dynamics. He underscored the need for strategic planning to align with university policies and strengthen MDRI’s long-term contributions to the region.
The APEC CTF research team, led by Dr. Kommate Jitvanichphaibool, Senior Division Director, facilitated stakeholder discussions to gather insights for developing a strategic plan and future management framework, enabling MDRI to navigate change efficiently and sustainably.
This initiative represents a pioneering application of strategic foresight within a university-based research and academic service institute. It serves as a model for expanding foresight-driven strategic planning to other higher education institutions in the future.
