Dr. Kitipong Promwong, NXPO President, gave a lecture on “Higher Education in An Era of Disruption” as part of the STI Policy Design Course Year 2. He highlighted that industry nowadays is looking for talents with skills and competences readily for the job, not just educational qualifications as it used to. Higher education institutes therefore need to make adjustment in order to produce graduates with employability.
Joining Dr. Kitipong in the lecture was Dr. Sakarindr Bhumiratana, former President of King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT). Dr. Sakarindr added that education and training must be designed to fulfil the demand of the job market and geared towards experience-based learning, as well as facilitate life-long learning. Reskilling, upskilling, multiskilling and non-degree programs will become more important to train current workforce as new technologies are constantly introduced to industries.
STI Policy Design Course is a 5-month program aiming at developing capacity of policy researchers, policy analysts and policy development specialists working in the STI system in Thailand and supporting the network formation of people working on STI policy for future knowledge exchange and collaboration.
