NXPO President gives an addreses at the 25th Session of the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development

On 30 March 2022, NXPO President Dr. Kitipong Promwong participated in the High-level Panel on Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Urban Development in a Post-Covid 19 World, one of the main events of the 25th Session of the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD). In the meeting, Dr. Kitipong delivered an address on behalf of Thailand. He described three priority issues in Thailand’s sustainable urban development, namely social mobility, net zero emissions and health security powered by the wellness innovation corridor. He further underscored the importance of science, technology and innovation and the vital support from the government and all sectors in the society, as well as international partners in enabling Thailand to achieve sustainable urban development. 

The 25th CSTD Session taking place from 28 March to 1 April 2022 also had a number of side events. NXPO Vice President Dr. Kanchana Wanichkorn joined a panel of experts in a side event on AI strategies for Inclusive and Sustainable Development organized jointly by Turkey and UNCTAD,. She discussed Thailand’s AI Master Plan and some key initiatives such as an AI public awareness program and challenging issues such as ethics and regulatory framework.  

Thailand and UNCTAD also co-organized a side event on Bioeconomy, Circular Economy and Green Economy for Sustainable Development. The event introduced Thailand’s Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) model, discussed national and international experiences and identified strategies to promote circular economy model to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and align with the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP). 

NXPO has been representing Thailand in the CSTD for two consecutive terms, 2015-2018 and 2019-2022. The CSTD is a key forum for NXPO to work with international partners on sustainability agenda.
