NXPO shares Thailand’s Technology Needs Assessment experience in UN workshop

วันที่เผยแพร่ 3 March 2023

In its capacity as the national designated entity (NDE) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), NXPO was recently invited to speak at the Global Technology Needs Assessment Project Workshop. Organized by the UNEP DTU Partnership which includes the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the UNFCCC Secretariat and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the workshop took place on 28 February – 2 March 2023 at Pullman Bangkok King Power.

In his presentation, NXPO Assistant to the President Dr. Surachai Sathitkunarat shared with workshop participants the experience and impact of Thailand’s participation in the Global Technology Needs Assessment Project. Thailand was among 13 countries joining the 1st phase of the project with GEF funding. TNA identifies the climate change mitigation and adaptation technology priorities of the country and works towards producing a pipeline of investment projects. Thailand’s TNA was completed in 2015. The report which consists of TNA, Technology Action Plans (TAPs) for Adaptation in the fields of water management, agriculture and mathematical modeling, and TAPs for Mitigation in the field of energy is available on https://tech-action.unepccc.org/country/thailand/. The TNA report has been cited and used extensively in the formulation of Thailand’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) Roadmap on Mitigation 2021-2030, the National Adaptation Plan (NAP), and the Climate Change National Plan 2015-2050.

The TNA report has also been instrumental in engaging Thailand in international dialogues seeking support pursuant to Article 4.5 of the UNFCCC and Article 10 of the Paris Agreement. Thailand’s TNA report has been widely recognized for its comprehensiveness and served as a case study for other countries embarking on the TNA exercise. The country has been invited to present its TNA experience to the international community regularly.
