On 25 April 2023, NXPO hosted a meeting to launch a project on green hydrogen. In attendance were a research team from the National Institute of Green Technology, Korea, representatives from Hydrogen Thailand Club and experts from relevant sectors.
NXPO President Dr. Kitipong Promwong said in his opening remarks that Thailand has been collaborating with international partners to implement climate actions. As hydrogen has potential to help decarbonize many sectors, NXPO is embarking on driving a hydrogen economy with the support from the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). To proceed with this initiative, the status and readiness of Thailand on this issue must be examined so that strategies and directions can be devised.
A follow-up to the “Path to Green Hydrogen Technologies via UNFCCC Technology Mechanism” seminar that took place on 24 April 2023, this event serves as a forum for stakeholders and interested individuals and parties to share information, provide inputs and engage in an in-depth discussion. Following this meeting, a joint working group will be established and meetings among stakeholders will be held regularly. The project is expected to produce several documents, including a draft vision and roadmap for the development of green hydrogen in Thailand, a proposal to be submitted to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) to seek fundings for green hydrogen projects, and a set of policy recommendations. The project will be executed by NXPO in collaboration with Thai and foreign partners which will be facilitated by information sharing and site visits in Thailand and Korea.
