NXPO and the Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA) recently joined a consortium of 21 organizations to announce the “PPP-Saraburi Sandbox: A Low Carbon City” initiative. Backed by seven ministries, the public-private partnership (PPP) strives to establish a blueprint for a low carbon society in Saraburi Province, aligning with Thailand’s commitment to cut carbon emissions by 40% before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
This endeavor represents a collective effort that draws contributions from the agricultural, industrial and government sectors. Initiatives encompass a corn breeding program for fuel production and pesticide use reduction, the promotion of eco-friendly hydraulic cement as a substitute for conventional cement, the advancement of energy from renewable sources such as waste, sunlight, and biomass, and the expansion of green spaces to enhance carbon sequestration. These actions constitute Thailand’s roadmap for its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement.
This PPP-Saraburi Sandbox initiative along with Thailand’s decarbonization innovation will be showcased at the Thailand Pavilion during the 28th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP 28), scheduled to convene later this year in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
