NXPO Policy Specialist Dr. Apichat Aphaiwong participated in the 123rd Session of the Committee for Scientific and Technological Policy (CSTP) – a committee established under the framework of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The session was convened on 17-20 October 2023 in Paris, France. During the 4-day event, he attended a Workshop on Policies for Science and Innovation Data and Evidence, co-organized by the CSTP, the OECD Working Party of National Experts on Science and Technology Indicators (NESTI), and the OECD Expert Group on Management and Analysis of Research and Innovation Administrative Data (MARIAD).
Dr. Apichat actively engaged in discussions concerning a range of agenda items, including the policies for science and innovation data and evidence, the essential role of technology insights in shaping science, research and innovation policies, the European Commission (EC) – OECD Science, Technology and Innovation Policies (STIP) Survey 2023, the S&T Policy 2025, 2025-2026 CSTP Workplan and Budget, and preparations for the CSTP ministerial meeting scheduled for April 2024. His comments were particularly focused to the item on green transition and climate action. He also emphasized the importance of Thailand’s active participation in the forthcoming CSTP ministerial meeting and suggested the inclusion of leaders and senior officials from ASEAN member countries in this important gathering. In addition to the afore-mentioned meeting, Dr. Apichat participated in a workshop focusing on stakeholders’ engagement in green transition, and a workshop on technology and research assessment. Furthermore, he held a meeting with the Division of Science and Technology Policy Division of OECD, where they reviewed the progress and workplan of the “Supporting STI strategy for carbon neutrality and transitions” project. This 3-year project, which commenced early this year, is part of the OECD – Thailand Country Program Phase II.
