On 21 November 2023, NXPO Director of Sustainable Policy Dr. Saravanee Singtong participated in the 2023 Annual Meeting of the Thai Sustainable Consumption and Production Network (Thai SCP Network). Co-hosted by the Thai SCP Network and the Department of Climate Change and Environment, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), the event was inaugurated by Dr. Wijarn Simachaya, President of Thailand Environment Institute (TEI) and Chairman of the Thai SCP Network, and Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat, Permanent Secretary of MONRE.

The meeting featured a keynote address by Dr. Phirun Saiyasitpanich, Secretary General of the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP) and a session exploring business opportunities in sustainable consumption and production.

During the event, Dr. Saravanee joined the speaker panel, discussing the role of technology and innovation in driving sustainable consumption and production. Some of NXPO’s initiatives were highlighted, including the Green Campus, the Low-carbon City Models, and the promotion of Thai micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with the Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) model. Implemented in partnership with the Council of University Presidents of Thailand, the Green Campus serves as a platform to promote climate innovation and GHG emission data collection in universities. Innovations such as rooftop solar and smart energy systems have been implemented on campuses. The Low-carbon City Models serve as pilot projects aimed at introducing climate technologies to facilitate net zero transition, with the support from international organizations. NXPO, in collaboration with the the Office of Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion (OSMEP), has completed the BCG capacity building project, benefiting 1,000 MSMEs in all five regions in Thailand. Dr. Saravanee also described the circular economy as the foundation of the SCP practices and emphasized NXPO’s on-going effort in developing green financing.
