On 25 December 2024, MHESI-NXPO and the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) convened to discuss strategic collaboration on the development of Thailand’s 14th National Economic and Social Development Plan (2028–2032). The meeting was led by Dr. Surachai Sathitkunarat, President of NXPO, and Dr. Patima Chongcharoentanawat, Director of NESDC’s Strategic Studies and Research Division.
Dr. Surachai presented an overview of NXPO, highlighting its past collaborations with NESDC, notably the development of the Master Plan on Research and Innovation under the National Strategy. He also outlined NXPO’s policy initiatives, policy research and studies on global trends by the APEC Center for Technology Foresight. NESDC shared their processes for budget planning and allocation, as well as monitoring and evaluation. The meeting exchanged views on factors critical to both short-term and long-term transitions, the linkage between the upcoming National Economic and Social Development Plan and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the prioritization of economic sectors to address transitions driven by these factors.
Both parties explored potential collaboration opportunities for the 14th National Economic and Social Development Plan (2028–2032). The planning process will commence in 2025 with the drafting of framework and gathering input, followed by public consultations and revisions in early 2027 before submission to the parliament.
