Autonomous, Connected, Electric, and Shared (ACES) are the trends for the future of mobility, enabling the industry to achieve clean, safe and sustainable transport systems. The transformation in mobility industry is apparent as electric vehicles become more affordable and have gained popularity due to its eco-friendliness. Self-driving system will become a crucial element to be integrated into electric vehicles.
To respond to these trends, NXPO has released a white paper on modern transport technology in September 2020. The white paper recommended that a clear goal be set so that Thai industry – automobile, energy and related industry – can prepare for the change and disruption. Such goal can be setting the target for 100% of new cars registered in Thailand in 2035 to be zero-emission vehicles (ZEV), for instance. A clear policy will set off the plans for R&D and technology localization, leading to the popularization of electric vehicles which can create positive impacts on road safety and air pollution.
NXPO’s recommendations are as follows:
- Set a clear policy for Thailand to become a Tier 1 producer and among Top 10 producers of ZEV and ACES as well as a leader in the design and production.
- Device a transition strategy by creating a domestic market in order to develop capacity of local businesses and supporting SMEs to further develop advanced technology and high-value parts.
- Develop market, support startups, unlock holding company regulation, and utilize a public-private partnership scheme for innovation development.
- Accelerate the development of manpower, infrastructure, database, standards and regulations.
